Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Alison Betts has played incredibly well over her first three games and is now averaging nearly $32,000 a victory! A lot of fans would love to see her break into six figures today, but challengers Veronica Tabor and Eric Reimund would love to remind everyone that there’s still a lot of variance in Jeopardy! these days and become the champion themselves!

This is also a friendly reminder that due to UEFA Champions League coverage on CBS this afternoon, some stations—most notably KIMT, serving northern Iowa and southern Minnesota, will be airing today’s game at 9:30 AM Central (10:30 AM Eastern).

Another reminder that I have started a Sunday mailbag column where I answer fan & viewer questions regarding the show. If you have a question, feel free to send it to mailbag@thejeopardyfan.com!

My friends over at Geeks Who Drink have introduced a new daily trivia game—Thrice! The usage of the term “summit” to refer to “a conference of highest-level officials (such as heads of government)” dates back to Churchill in 1950, when he used a mountain-climbing metaphor, suggesting that peace is attainable if the highest-level leaders speak to each other directly, referring to it as “a parley at the summit”. A later 1955 meeting between the US, France, the UK, and the USSR in Geneva was also called a summit, and the term stuck.

(Categories: Val, History’s Clumsiest Time Traveler; Siblings In Pop Culture; Making Noise; Say It In Spanish; Land Of Milk & Honey; A “M”edical Dictionary)

Eric had a great Double Jeopardy round, finding both Daily Doubles. Unfortunately, an incident where he got to the correct response, but forgot to phrase it in the form of a question, led to him having to rebuild his score. Incredibly, he managed to catch Alison again, and took the lead on the final clue of the round! Meanwhile, Veronica got herself back to $0 late, but couldn’t get into a position to play Final Jeopardy.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Eric 16 correct 4 incorrect
Alison 19 correct 3 incorrect
Veronica 10 correct 7 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 4 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Eric $11,600
Alison $11,200
Veronica $0

Neither Alison nor Eric could come up with “summit”—and Alison’s small bet makes her a 4-day champion!

Tonight’s results:

Veronica $0 (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)
Alison $11,200 – $1,000 = $10,200 (What Yalta <3 OJE) (4-day total: $107,700)
Eric $11,600 – $11,599 = $1 (What is the himalayas)
